Thursday 13 - Questions???

We are running like crazy without much time to post today. So this post isn't anything inspiring or informative - just a list of 13 questions I haven't had time to research on the internet yet!

  1. How do you keep flies off a dog's ears? Groban is surrounded by flies, and they are biting his ears like crazy.
  2. How do you clean washable marker marks off of tile grout? Our "art tile walls" wipe clean easily, except for the grout.
  3. Is eating toilet paper dangerous? In large quantities?
  4. How much food do bunnies really need? Will they overeat if you overfeed them?
  5. What do bunnies eat besides lettuce, carrots, and cabbage?
  6. Is breastfeeding a baby to sleep as bad for their teeth as bottlefeeding them to sleep?
  7. What is marula? We've been drinking marula juice, and I have no idea what it is.
  8. Is Chinese cabbage supposed to be prickly? The stuff in our garden looks like lettuce except for the prickles. You have to cook it in order to eat it, and the cooked stuff tastes like cooked lettuce.
  9. What are some good books on marriage after kids?
  10. How does water witching work? (We DO NOT do this in our well project, by the way!)
  11. What are some good recipes for using up our 50kg bags of pinto beans?
  12. Are there ANY recipes that use LARGE quantities of lemons? I've been miscounting our lemon trees - we actually have 5 overproducing trees.
  13. What is this plant Esmé is looking at?
That's all, folks! Happy Thursday 13!

Hi, I am Tracy...I have been reading your blog ever since your sister Ann shared it with me. (I worked with her in Moscow)

I love lemons! Here are some links to recipes that sound good to me. One of them even includes raisins (if you have any left)

Enjoyed reading your WFMW! Great craft ideas!

Hmmmm...when we had marker in our tile grout, I just poured a capful of bleach and let it set a few minutes and then wiped it up!

You could set up a lemonade stand!

as far as i remember from my nursing days (they seem forever ago but it was only about 2 mos ago that i quit...after 13 mos of nursing) :-) ...anyway, i believe that it's okay b/c the sugars are different than in formula or cow's milk. i wouldn't quote me on it but i think it's fine. :-)

I believe that nursing to sleep is better than bottle to sleep.

According to Wikipedia, the marula fruit has 8 times the amount of vitamin c found in oranges! Here's a link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marula

You might try rubbing alcohol on the ink - it disolves it in some fabrics.

As far as eating toilet paper - it would be better than eating Kleenex! Toilet paper is pretty biodegradable. Facial tissue is made less so, so that it won't dissolve when you blow your nose.

That's all I've got.

Your girl looks darn cute in her little cheerleader outfit!

I don't think I can answer any of your questions. But I do like a book on marriage (not specifically for after kids); it's called Marriage on The Rock.

Nursing to sleep is not bad for baby's teeth both because of the sugars (they are different than formula) but also because the way the baby sucks milk spends very little time in the actual mouth and goes almost directly to the throat.

Marula is a fruit that comes from the Marula tree (I think)... all I know is I was on safari and the guide says that they start to ferment in the heat when they fall to the ground and the elephants have been known to get drunk off it- funny! I love Amarula, it's a Bailey's-like drink that is creamy and wonderful and apparently comes from that fruit!

Oh yeah, and an excellent book on marriage after baby is called "And baby makes three" by John Gottman, it's fabulous

oh my...good questions! unfortunately i have no answers other than don't worry about nursing her to sleep and make lots and lots of lemonade!!!

I have to jump in and try my hand at being a guru! :-)

#2 - if all else fails use Tippex (whiteout) or white takkie/shoe polish - but bleach should do a good job, neat.

#7 - I'm jealous! I haven't had marula since Zim days. It's a wild fruit that can't be cultivated "in captivity". The alcoholic Amarula Cream is made from it, but elephants and other beasts love the fruit fresh off the tree. And so do I. Count your blessings you get to drink it.

#12 - Lemonade (fresh squeezed - 4 or 5 to the jug, add sugar, top up with water and a couple crushed mint leaves). Works better in summer than winter though... If all else fails, juice them, freeze the juice in ziploc bags or ice cubes (then stick the cubes in a ziploc in the freezer) and use in those smaller quantities out of lemon season.

Marula is a fruit from South Africa..it's really good and very nutritional. I've tried that juice before :)

As for lemons, I have a lemon tree in my backyard and I use them to make lemonade, lemon pie, lemon bread pudding...anything actually LOL

As a matter of fact I just posted the recipe for that Lemon Bread Pudding on my blog yesterday.

I think this a fun idea for a "13".

Love the picture of Esme and I think that might be a Jade plant. Hard to tell. If it has thick, shiny almost plasticy feeling leaves, it might be a jade.

Eating toilet paper?!!!! I am cracking up!!! That is a hoot!!!

Wow. Lots of great questions, and I know none of the answers! Sorry! Someone above suggested AllRecipes. I use that site as well. Esme' is adorable, but I can't identify the plant, or pretty much any plant, unfortunately.

Thanks for visiting my blog. Stop back by if you can and enter my bloghop 08 drawing.

Lots of questions and I have no answers for you though I agree with others comments on the lemons, I would be baking up a storm and drinking lots of lemonade. My boys love it but we have to buy them at the store, they don't grow here in Canada.

Thanks for stopping by and your blog and your life looks very interesting. I'll be back!
