The Berenstain Bears and the Golden Rule, by Stan & Jan Berenstain with Mike Berenstain, is a great practical application story of the Golden Rule (Matthew 7:12) geared towards the ages of 4-7. Sister Bear receives a beautiful gold locket with the Golden Rule inside for her birthday. When a new bear shows up at school, Sister Bear remembers what it was like to be left out. The Golden Rule helps her decide what to do when no one else wants to befriend the new girl.
Two-year-old Esmé gives this book a thumbs-up! The lesson and the quantity of words are just a bit too advanced, in my opinion, for her to follow, but she loves the bears, enjoys the pictures, and has asked for me to read this a number of times. And I'm constantly amazed at the things she picks up on and comes up with, so I'm sure she'll amaze me with her application of the Golden Rule one of these days. (That, or ask me for her own gold locket!)
And of course, I always love books with valuable lessons that my kid enjoys!

I've always loved the Berenstain bears and M already has a couple of their books. We have actually talked about the Golden Rule (although I didn't call it that) and he is totally confused about "if I hit someone why does that mean I want them to hit me?" Yep, that's what he got out of our little talk and those were his exact words. :) He just can't seem to get past that point, lol. I would love to win this book, but I think we'll be checking it out at the library even if we don't! Thanks for the review!

Living abroad means I'm always keen to get ahold of English books! And as a kid I loved the B.Bears. I had a few that my kids now read (new baby, when Sister was born, and one about the messy room and another about dinosaurs). My son really enjoys them, so I'd love to add another to the collection!
