There's an extremely versatile piece of clothing found waving in the breeze throughout Africa. You might think of it as a "sarong." I first heard of it as a "chitenje" while in Malawi. In Zimbabwe, it is called a "zambia." The ones pictured here were purchased in Mozambique, so we'll use their Mozambican name: "capulana."

These 4-meter length fabrics are used simply as wraparound skirts, as aprons to protect other clothing, as curtains to cover oneself while showering, as coverups while wearing bathing suits, as handkerchiefs or towels, and to tie a baby on one's back.

Today we are giving two capulanas to one winner. They are complementary patterns, so you can use them for crafts such as quilting.
