Tiny Talk Tuesday

It’s official. I can’t keep track of her new words anymore. Esmé (17 months) is quite capable of saying new words anytime, anywhere. Today I stopped after "lemon," "mango," "coconut," "bee," and "pot." You say it, she can repeat it.

There are still lots of things to work on, such as differentiating between "button," "butterfly," and "bottom." She calls Daddy "mommy," all round things are "balls," and all babies are "dolls" at the moment. And she loves repeating certain sounds and words over and over, like "all done" while she's eating, even if she is NOT all done. And "button" (for belly button) is her absolute favorite word as she proudly shows everyone exactly where hers is and theirs is.

It’s exciting, but sad, too, that this word counting phase is passing. I’m going to miss the happy dances over each new word.

---------------
We have some work to do on self-identification of dog versus human. Today Esmé starting running up to the fence and saying "woof woof," just like Groban the dog does.

---------------
And "please" has finally made it into the vocabulary. Though unfortunately it has the connotation of being a magic word. “Peez” means “I get those potato chips I want, right now. Right? Because I said the magic word!”

---------------
Esmé likes to say her vowels: "a," "e," "o," "uh," "a," "o." She says it while she is "counting" things. And there is nothing more distractingly frustrating than for her to go through her repertoire while I am trying to keep track of my jump rope counts!

---------------
Just to prove she is STILL skateboarding on occasion, here's a recent photo. We've got to get back to work on some new stunts for you all. I know.

I can't wait for Charlotte to start verbalizing real words!

In the mean time, she also confuses Mommy and Daddy, but in sign language instead. I think that is because I worked with her on Daddy so much, she just associated that sign with me.

She's such a cutie.

And it sounds like she's really talking. My mom says I was speaking full sentences by 18 months but I have yet to see any of my kids come close to that. Angel Girl says more than her brothers did at her age but she's nowhere near Esme.

That picture is so great! Love it!
I was sad after the words counting was over too. These stages pass so fast.

first, that picture is priceless! i loved it when "peez" made it into the vocabulary because he thought it meant he got whatever he wanted. oh, to have had to break his little heart when "peez" didn't mean "of course you can just because you said peez!"

Oh, my...I think all little ones go through that stage when they think that saying "please" will get them whatever they want. Mine still thinks that! :)
