Tiny Talk Tuesday

This week, Esmé (22 months old today!) has been dealing with gender identification issues...

Usually I ask, "Who are you?"

And the answer is a variation of "Me," "You," or "Esmé."

This time I asked, "What are you?"

And the answer, repeatedly, was "Boy. Boy! BOY! BOY!!!" No matter how much I explained that the correct answer was "Girl."

---------------
Then, while visiting her cousins on Sunday, all the girl cousins were "Boy." It seems to be her generic term for all kids.

---------------
Perhaps this is just an indication of Esmé's latest obsessions. She experienced her first love rejection this week. She met the 8-year-old boy on Friday night and was infatuated from the get-go. "Boy! Come!" "Boy! See!" "Boy! Do!"And on and on the commands went. She never would call him by name.

At church, the relationship continued. Esmé would follow the boy around, get his attention, then run away and expect to be followed. No one else's attention was good enough. He started to get embarrassed with all her attention and proceeded to run away from her as fast as possible, ignoring her commands.

It was terribly sad to see the perplexity and even tears as she realized her heart's desire was not hers for the taking. I don't know how I'll stand the pain of her teenage years if it's this bad already!

---------------
Here's Miss Esmé inspecting the world with her new magnifying glass... All the better to search for boys, I fear!

That is too cute...boy boy boy hehe. I bet she just loved that magnifying glass with seeing everything so close. It makes you wonder what goes through their minds.

I love it! I'm working with Savannah on the boy/girl thing too...I think we're FINALLY starting to get it. :)

Poor thing! Little Elvis likes older women as well -- I'm guessing his preferred age range is 12-14.

uh-oh! mommy and daddy better watch out. Ladybug isn't allowed to like boys until she's 30!
