OLZ World Food Programme

Hope you all are having a blessed weekend! Just wanted to take a few moments to link you to the World Food Programme and what they are doing in Zimbabwe.

The World Food Programme is the United Nations' agency in the frontlines combatting world hunger. It is the world's largest humanitarian organization. Its vision is a "world in which every man, woman and child has access at all times to the food needed for an active and healthy life."

Here is their update from January 15, 2009:
  • With the food crisis worsening, WFP is aiming to assist more people than originally planned in January – targeting around 4.5 million people across Zimbabwe (more than 1/3rd of the population)
  • WFP and its NGO partners successfully distributed food assistance to over 4 million people in December
  • Donors have responded generously to WFP’s recent appeal for extra funds but WFP still requires additional donations to fund its operations until the end of March 2009
  • Without additional contributions, WFP will be forced to reduce rations again in February and March - the peak hunger months before the main annual harvest starts in April
If you're interested in donating to WFP, please note that their online donation form allows you to designate your donation form specifically to Southern Africa.
