A is for Amazing

Dear Miss Esmé,
You are amazing.

Exactly 5 years ago, you played your first April Fools’ trick on me.  Overdue, no sign that you were coming yet, I was huge and getting ANTSY.

And then you stopped moving.

Hmmm…  I guzzled juice, knowing that sugar makes you dance.  Still nothing.  Grandma convinced us to head to the hospital, just to make sure nothing was wrong.

And nothing was wrong.  You were just dilly-dallying, taking a little nap before making your grand entrance.  Always fashionably late, you are.

You arrived on your own timetable two days later.  If you had waited just a few hours more the midwife would’ve been inducing you.

And you were amazing.  Perfect.  A perfect 50th percentile textbook baby.

You are fearfully and wonderfully made.  God’s works are wonderful, and when I look at you, I know that full well.

I love you, my amazing baby girl!

Each birthday, I write a letter to my baby girl.  This year, the year of the amazing 5-year-mark, I’ll be working from A to Z.

Awww, what a sweet post. My boys were due April 5, and we joked with my in-laws that if I called on the 1st to say I was in labor, that wasn't a joke.

Of course, we didn't make it to April.
