Thursday 13 - Love

In honor of Valentine's Day, today we're focusing on the ultimate 13: 1 Corinthians 13...

LOVE...
  1. Is patient. It doesn't fuss when Mommy is on the phone too long or Papa is running into the store for something.

  2. Is kind. It doesn't pull KitKat's tail.

  3. Does not envy. It's happy with my doll even if the doll in the OTHER shopping cart has prettier hair.

  4. Does not boast. It smiles only for sheer joy when I do my exciting tricks.

  5. Is not proud. It claps when the other kids do impressive tricks, too.

  6. Is not rude. It says "Please" and "Thank you."

  7. Is not self-seeking. It looks for ways to help when Mommy is sweeping or Daddy is putting furniture together.

  8. Is not easily angered. It waits at least until I've demanded something 15 times before it gets angered!

  9. Keeps no record of wrongs. And when I fall off the bed while I'm sleeping and get a big purple bump on my head to match the color of my shirt, it still snuggles up with Mommy afterwards.

  10. Always protects. It rocks my baby doll and feeds it and unclothes it and sings lullabies.

  11. Always trusts. It goes to sleep at night knowing Mommy and Papa are close by and will be there for me in the morning. It doesn't even remember that I fell off the bed while sleeping.

  12. Always hopes. It keeps asking for love in my love language, like putting in my Barney DVD or reading me a story or giving me chips. No matter how much I hear "No," it hopes.

  13. Always perseveres. It keeps being friendly even if the other kid isn't so friendly. It keeps loving even when it doesn't feel loved.
LOVE never fails.
Cuz God is love. And when He lives in me, His love shines through me, too...
Love you all!

What a great post, Esme! You helped me think about ways that I can teach Isaiah how to show love now, too. Thank you!

This post brought me to tears; I woke up this morning thinking that the point of all of this-LIFE-is love, and how I struggle so much with just loving people, and I really, really needed to read this today. Thank you so much to both of oyu for being a constant source of strength and inspiration to me; you are, so much more than you can ever concieve.

Oh, Esmé, what a lovely way to think about Valentine's Day! This is my very most favorite guidance when I think about what kind of person I want to be. We should all try to be "love" in everything we do. :o)

You know what one I have the hardest time with? The first one. Why is patience so hard for me??
