Tiny Talk Tuesday

That’s my girl! We went out for Indian food last night (to celebrate someone else’s 45th anniversary), and Esmé (16 months) loved the hot stuff. She dipped her pappadum into the sauce provided, just like everybody else. And she insisted on eating it, even as tears welled up in her eyes.

---------------
Last week she fetched the toilet paper; this week she figured out the toilet lid. Up to now, leaving the lid down kept her out of the toilet. It still works for our cat, and I was kind of hoping it would work forever with Esmé, too.

Upon her discovery, she went for the toilet paper roll and started tearing off small pieces to put in the toilet. Then she discovered the sound effect of slamming toilet lids, so that's kept her from dumping the whole roll of toilet paper into the toilet so far.

Forget all those developmental milestones in the books - the real ones to keep track of are the toilet-related ones. The next big one - flushing the toilet.

---------------
How do you know you have a mosquito problem? When you catch your baby standing on the bed - fingers pointed to the top of the mosquito net. This is followed by a loud clap/smack of the hands together, then a very thorough inspection of the hands to see if there are mosquito body parts and blood on the hands.

So far she hasn't captured any, but it's fun to watch her try! (And Mommy misses them all the time, too - Mozambican mosquitoes are waaay smart. Must be the malaria factor that strengthens their reflexes.)

The grasshoppers are a whole 'nother story.

---------------
Yes, we are still documenting new favorite words. It's a habit I can't break yet, even though I know I'm missing lots of them. This week:
  • Amen - As in "That was a nice prayer; now let's get on with the food!" I LOVE watching her fold her hands, but I haven't figured out the trick for getting her to close her eyes . . .
  • Walk - As in "Would you stop carrying me already, Mom? I wanna get down and walk! I can get places lots faster that way!"
  • Butterfly - As in "There's a butterfly in that picture! Let's sing the butterfly song! See, I can do the hand motions!" Though it sounds more like "bubbye."
  • No no no no no - As in "No no no no no!" And "No" is still cute in this house.
  • Me - As in "Jesus loves the little ones like me, me, me" as she points to herself.
  • Hippo - As in "There's a hippo in that picture! I know all about hippos! They sing on YouTube and they start with the letter 'H'!"
---------------
Esmé's handwriting is becoming surprisingly legible. I found "ice cream" written on our shopping list board on the fridge this week in her scribble. Ms. Cathrine won't admit to helping her with it, but I have my suspicions . . .

Here is Ms. Esmé practicing her writing skills with chalk.

Those toilet milestones really are the ones I keep track of too... ;) I don't know what the excitement is all about, but Noe (19 months)can't get enough of the toilet. Yesterday he ran in to the bathroom, dipped his hands in the toilet, than came out and wiped them on my shirt. Really?! Why must we do this? :)
I had such a fun visit to your blog today. :) I really enjoy all of the crafting things that you guys do.
Also, praying for your mom, your grandma and all of your family as they deal with these tough health issues. I know it is a hard thing to go through.

Love the toilet milestones she says sarcastically as one in day two of potty training third boy. ugh!

My husband and I LOVE indian food and all the restaurants are so far from us. He has learned to cook a few things but it isn't like going somewhere that can bring you dish after dish of yumminess.

Every shopping list should have ICECREAM scrawled on it!

She looks adorable in that tie-dyed dress and the handwriting? Impeccable. I keep the doors to the bathrooms closed because I am too afraid of the havoc my son will cause in there. What do you do to prevent Esme from getting malaria? I know that anti-malaria pills can be toxic.

Clearly a genuis. You are so lucky! Yeah, the toilet thing-ugh. A few months ago I found my two year old using the cap off of my face cream to get drinks. Made me gag. Even though I have a toilet-cleanliness fetish.

She's such a pretty baby.
So Angel girl does the, tear off tiny pieces of toilet paper to throw in the toilet, too. And she has figured out how to flush it now. She loves that sound.

What sweet reflections and what a beautiful child. We never did a toilet phase, here, either but we did have one instance where someone wiped a bottom too many times and filled the potty with toilet paper, leading said potty to spill toilet contents all over the floor. Shudder.

Definitely document their favorite words and the way they pronounce them. They'll love hearing about it when they're older.

What a beautiful little girl!

This Cutie Pie reminds me of my youngest. When she was this age, we used to go out for Mexican food, which she loved. She loved it so much that she used to eat the salsa straight out of the dish with a spoon! BTW, I just *tagged* you for a *meme*. Come on over and play along--it'll be fun!

My girls love Indian Food too! As a matter of fact, we just at some Butter Chicken and Naan this past week and I couldn't feed my 9 month old fast enough!

My 2nd child has also discovered the toilet. He love to see what he can throw in there and slam the lid down before Mommy sees him. I'd get toilet locks, but it doesn't happen often and we're moving soon. Locks for the new house for sure! I wish I'd kept a list of all the strange things flushed away by my first boy.

Isn't this age fun! Hailey doesn't care anything about the toilets yet- and I am happy about that! We have toilet locks but haven't had to install them yet because she just isn't interested. I hope it stays that way.
