I is for Indomitable

Dear Miss Esmé,

You are indomitable.

Can’t keep you down for nothin’!

Oh, this definitely has its downsides.  Primarily when we are trying to teach you a lesson by applying appropriate consequences to your bad behavior.

You disobey.  We take away Barbie and Ken.  You scream like a banshee for a few seconds to make sure we understand your displeasure with us – to give your best shot at convincing us to give them back.

And then you say, “That’s okay, I have lots of other toys.”  And you go on your merry way as if the punishment never happened.

And I just want you to GET the lesson.  To UNDERSTAND that you’ve done wrong.  To TAKE me seriously for once!

It IS sweet that you are quick to get past your anger and to forgive and love – as if nothing bad ever occurred.  You don’t hold grudges.  You love on your mamma and daddy just as much if we’ve been at odds all day as you do when things are going swimmingly well.

If we can ever get past this mamma-head-beating lesson-learning stage, I know this character trait will be one of your strengths.  To rise up, again and again – never letting anything keep you down for long.
Swing

You’ve got the right perspective, baby.  In the grand scheme of things, our present troubles are small.  We’ve got an ETERNITY of glory waiting for us!  So what’s a few years without Barbie and Ken?  Why shouldn’t we be cheerful?!

I love you, my amazing, beautiful, clever, dilly-dallying, energized, following, grace-filled, hidden, indomitable baby girl!

Your Mom

Each birthday, I write a letter to my baby girl.  This year, the year of the amazing 5-year-mark, I’ll be working from A to Z.

Wow, this must be how God sees us, headbashing, yelling and screeming when we are disciplined after we have gone headlong in our own way. I pray that we will learn to willingly submit just like you, Esme, need to submit to Daddy & Mommy. Love you. Grandma
