OLZ Earring Giveaway

One of the first blogs Mommy started following was Austin to Africa, Brasil to the Bay. It was fun to follow another American's adventures in Mozambique, through job changes and travels and new kittens and even a wedding!

Well, Ms. Ali not only writes, but also creates fantastic jewelry using local Mozambican materials! You can see examples of her art on her blog, and there are just a few items left in her etsy shop, also. I am drooling over the stuff; how I love me some bling!

And she's been kind enough to contribute a beautiful pair of earrings to Operation Love Zimbabwe. These are made from sterling silver and 300-year-old trade beads from Mozambique Island. Here's a photo of them, though it doesn't quite do the colors justice. Thanks, Ali!

To Enter: All you have to do is leave a comment on this post. Please make sure you include an email so I can contact you if you win.

You can get up to two extra entries if you (1) post about Operation Love Zimbabwe on your blog, and/or (2) put the Operation Love Zimbabwe button on your blogsite. Please leave a separate comment for each entry.

Entries must be made by 11:59 p.m. PST on February 14, 2009. The winner will be selected using http://www.random.org/ and will be contacted by email.

If you haven't already, please take a look at the Introduction to Operation Love Zimbabwe and check around this site for other posts on Zimbabwe. And spread the word - we are trying to make a difference in the lives of Zimbabweans!

If beads could tell stories, from days long ago...
How exciting their world may have been!
To travel the oceans, to be traded for gifts,
To be treasured by royalty's kin.
Then possibly lost... fallen out from a bag,
To be found on a beach by the shores,
Tangled in nets, held by fisherman's hands,
To be given to a girl he adores...
And on goes the journey, and hopefully soon, I'll be part of the story of the the beads.. sparkling blue!

Wow! I've been a bit quiet in the blogosphere lately, and this is such a lovely way in which to be welcomed back. :)

Congratulations on all your hard work with the OLZ initiative. I look forward to following your stories in Zim.

I am putting new inventory in my Etsy shop as of March 1st - including several trade bead pieces. The site is www.alexandraamaro.etsy.com.

Thank you so much for your support. I hope the earrings made a small difference.
