Dear Miss Esmé,
You are a follower.
Oh, no – not in the traditional sense. Never! You don’t follow people. If “everybody is doing it,” you are most likely to be doing the opposite.
No, you follow the beat of a different drum. You do your own thing. Not solitary – you are thrilled if others join you. But if no one joins you, you still do you own thing.
And here’s what I love: you are not a fickle follower. Nothing, no one, can stand in your path, your plan, your way of determination. You give it your best shot, fighting to the death it seems.
Conventional wisdom says: Follow your heart. Follow your dreams.
God says: The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure! (Jer 17:9). Follow Christ, baby. Follow Christ...
I will follow Thee, my Savior,
Thou didst shed Thy blood for me;
And though all men should forsake Thee,
By Thy grace I’ll follow Thee.~ James L. Elginburg
I love you, my amazing, beautiful, clever, dilly-dallying, energized, following baby girl!
Your Mom

Each birthday, I write a letter to my baby girl. This year, the year of the amazing 5-year-mark, I’ll be working from A to Z.

Very nice. I like how you added the Bible verse at the end and who she should follow. God Bless your family this Easter and the whole year through.
