L is for Love

Dear Miss Esmé,

You are loving.  You are loveable.  You are loved.

Every so often, you come up to me and softly say, “Mommy, I love you.”

And in my cynical state of mind, I wonder, “Just what is she trying to manipulate me into now?”

And I can’t figure out any kind of angle.

You love me.  It’s that simple.  Nothing to earn.  Nothing to gain.  Just plain love.

Yes, there are other “love” moments, too.  With lots of angles.  But we’ll ignore those for the present…

Baby – there are so many things we want to pass on; knowledge and wisdom and skills and character traits; but – if there’s one thing we want you to to know, to remember, to be sure of, it’s this:

You are loved.
Love always protects,
always trusts,
always hopes,
always perseveres.
I love you, my amazing, beautiful, clever, dilly-dallying, energized, following, grace-filled, hidden, indomitable, Jericho-miracle, kidlet, loved baby girl!

Your Mom

Each birthday, I write a letter to my baby girl.  This year, the year of the amazing 5-year-mark, I’ll be working from A to Z.

Hello.
Visiting from the Post A-Z Road Trip.

What a lovely gesture. It's kind of what my wife and I do on each anniversary...we stopped buying gifts years ago and instead, each anniversary, we write each other love letters then spend our time re-reading ones from previous years. It has brought us so much closer. Nice post. Thanks for sharing.
