WFMW - "F" Crafts

We are at week 6 of the alphabet already - the letter "F"!

Mommy says I wasn't too cooperative this week, but I say we still tried a lot of stuff! Here are the crafts that worked (and didn't work) for this 15-month-old (I just turned 16 months on Sunday).

Fingers. Mommy traced my fingers on paper and we counted them. Ten whole fingers!

Feet. Mommy traced my feet on paper, too, and we counted them, too. Only two of those. I decided to try tracing my own feet, but I got more marker on my feet than on the paper.

Food. I helped Mommy make Food for my Father for his birthday on Friday - wow - lots of "F" words there! Mommy says I get an "A" for effort and an "F" for obedience when it comes to making food. Both of my letters are in the first six letters of the alphabet, so I must be a pretty good chef!

Fish. Can't have an "F" week without some kind of fish . . . We made a suncatcher fish by tearing up different colors of tissue paper and sticking them between two pieces of contact paper. There is this curly pink ribbon in Mommy's gift wrap box that I REALLY like, so I put a piece of it in this fish, too, all by my own self.

Frog. And what would "F" week be without a frog in it? I LOVE my Frog book that makes "Ribbit Ribbit" sounds. So we made a frog by painting a piece of egg carton green and attaching pipe cleaner legs. And we found a great use for some of that curly pink ribbon I just told you I liked - frog tongue!

Flower. Our yard is a little devoid of flowers at the moment. But we did find some blooming bougainvillea and we picked a bunch. Then we pasted it onto this purple tulip Mommy cut out. She dropped most of the glue onto the tulip, but she let me drip some, too. That was REALLY fun. I dripped it everywhere and got those drops flying around the room!

Finger Puppets. Mommy thought about making finger puppets, but who needs to make them when you've got handy dandy glue stick caps to put on your fingers? That can keep me entertained for HOURS (or what feels like hours - maybe about 5 minutes?).

Stickers. We made two sticker crafts. One was fish in a blue sea, with glitter glue bubbles floating to the top. The other was footprints on a beach, or something like that. Obviously the person making the footprints had no clue where he was going.

Farmer Girl. After all Mommy's whining about the overgrown (think green) baby (think miniscule) carrots in our garden, we actually got a few decent ones. Here are some I helped pick, along with my Peter Rabbit book. We fed these to our bunnies.

Floor Art. Maybe we should have saved this one for "G" week and called it "giraffe art." But I was rolling this giraffe back and forth and inspired Mommy to get the wrapping paper out and make some floor art.

She dribbled paint around on the paper, and we rolled the giraffe back and forth through the paint, making this really cool painting!

Finger Painting. This was the FLOP of the week, at least in Mommy's opinion. She spent lots of time trying to find food coloring in the stores and then cooking up the cornstarch finger paints.

But boy, was that stuff nasty! Gooey and gloppy and slimy and yucky. And gross. I wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole! Well, I did get close enough to rescue my little kitty from the goop after Mommy put it there in an attempt to get me to paint. She wanted me to get in there and make a mess and even try eating the stuff. NO WAY! I'd far rather eat DIRT. Or TOILET PAPER. Or DRY BEANS.

Fruit Basket. So to redeem herself from Finger Painting Failure, Mommy had the bright idea to make a fruit basket from my little fruit magnets. Now THAT was a cool idea! I LOVE my magnets!

Just goes to show you that simple and spontaneous is always best . . .

I always love all the ideas you come up with. It must be so much fun. So was that gooey mess the finger paints? Were they easy to clean up or do they stain.

I'm always afraid of things with food dye staining. I've seen a really neat recipe for your own bath finger paints, but afraid they will stain.

just remember even flying glue starts with an "f"... so even though you messed a little you still did very well, esme:D

Wow...I see you've already begun homeschooling. ;) How creative!

Glad you liked the greenhouse analogy--it has served me well over the years.

Blessings on your beautiful little one!

These are definitely great ideas! We have been learning about frogs so I might have to make that frog with the egg carton.

Fun stuff, as always!

We aren't quite at the point of organizing our weeks with letters, but I thought I'd share a easy toddler activity.
